    worst, most authoritarian jurisdiction in the US - and it is the farthest away from freedom on the freedom/repression continuum.

    And yet even there, things are closer to Jeffersonian Democracy than they are to North Korea.  The vast majorty of the time, the vast majority of people are able to speak their minds and participate in the political process.  They've had huge participatory rallies for and against the Senate bill, for instance.  That woulnd't happen in a true police state.
