  •  Every single republican I personally know, when (18+ / 0-)

told of my family's genetic disease (which causes pre-existing condition problems with insurance companies) simply shrugs when I explain the personal importance of health care reform.  They have arrived at a point where empathy for their fellow woman has been replaced by political ideology.  Even some older women, previously moderate or liberal, have succumbed to the hate pill that the GOP is pushing.  Someday it will be studied by scientists who will draw many similarities between this and what happened in Germany.  How low will a society go, if the hatred and fear is allowed to continue?  Each step brings one closer to losing empathy and rationalizing your ideology.  It's been very disturbing to see these changes in what I always previously regarded as a tolerant society.  We'll see where it goes, hopefully we're at a tipping point.

    •  They are so rigid in their ideology (6+ / 0-)

that it's about impossible to talk to them.

Where are all the jobs, Boehner?

    •  That's sad. But it's in their dna to be (2+ / 0-)

totally lacking in compassion. I really do believe this and have read about how some societies have more or less of it than others so with our mix of different society's dna it makes perfect sense. What kills me is that some of my siblings are that type of Republican, but perhaps not so egregious, while others are not.

We cannot overstate the damage that Fox News and right wing radio are doing to american society.

There have always been people who are lacking in  compassion, but what the right wing propaganda machine has been doing for at least a decade now is exacerbating the problem. Feeding a large segment of the population with hate, resentment, and most of all, LIES. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Another factor in the last twenty, thirty years is the growth of radical evangelical groups, like the dominionist movement.

except I believe those words, those lies, fall best on ears of those whose dna is not as evolved as those with compassion.

    •  And yet (7+ / 0-)

they cry about their own circumstances.  Cain was all snivelly about his cancer this weekend, but when it comes to others, it is "blame yourself."

Boehner cries for himself, but when have you seen him cry for anyone else?
