  •  Would  you really compare the US and Syria? (0+ / 0-)

I realize you are trying to win what has now become a a pointless semantic argument, but I'm just curious if you would really equate the situation of demonstrators in the US with that of Syria.

In my viewpoint, that would trivialize what Syrians face and what many Americans have faced in the past.

If the Davis students had their confrontation in Syria it's pretty likely that would have been a spray of bullets, not pepper spray. If you don't see much difference in that then count yourself the winner of the argument and give yourself soem brownie points.

But I suggest you ask yourself if you would trade places with them and if not, why.

    •  i am not making this argument... (0+ / 0-)

... so I wont ask myself that question.

The claim that I equate Syria and the US is a strawman.
Arguing against strawmen is stupid and pointless. Strawmen need to be identified and subsequently ignored.

You presented a method to evaluate if a state is a police state or not.  I consider this metric of yours to be stupid and misleading, and proved it by bringing one obvious counterexample.

That's logic 101. You present a rule, I show that it is wrong by by bringing up an obvious example were your rule is wrong. Q.e.d.

      •  I asked you a simple & direct question (0+ / 0-)

That is not at all a strawman; simply if you equate the actual situations of the US and Syria.

        And you dodged it.

Just posted a rhetorical argument the first time around, and now, once again, try to score the tactical point rather that engage in any substantive discussion of the issue.

Got it. You have nothing of substance to add.

        Happy Day, Turkey Day.
