Amniocentesis is not an elective procedure, and she indicates having one prenatal visit 5 weeks earlier. For what medical reason would she have been given amniocentesis, which is not without risk?

      it IS an elective procedure.

They only do it if you have a high risk pregnancy (say, you're over 35 or have had issues before).

It is not without its own risks - a giant needle inserted into the amniotic sac, etc., - I had one.

You don't want one unless it's absolutely necessary.  Certainly no doctor is doing one on just because he feels like it.

Why is it that a 3% tax increase for the wealthy is considered "socialism" and an 8% wage cut for the middle class is "doing your part"? MartyM

Thanks for your common sense, medically based thoughts on this situation.  I think being 19 and being pregnant without a stable situation has played into her emotions and distress greatly.  At this point, I hope she will be able to have some counseling for her grief and practice birth control until her circumstances allow for a happier situation for herself and a child.

I do hope the police who kicked her in the stomach, sprayed her with pepper spray, suffers some sort of serious punishment and more than a little guilt.

Although I'm not a practitioner, I know a lot about medicine (the research and the clinical side) because of my job. I've worked on a variety of medical topics, including obstetrics and gynecology.

I do think if she was kicked in the stomach, she should file a case regardless of whether it contributed to her lawsuit, because no officer has the right to do that. It seems like such an odd thing for him to do--so personally vindictive. So, she should get a lawyer and see what options she has if her rights were violated.
