  •  FYI: Reykjavík is further n. than Yellowknife :) (6+ / 0-)

    By hundreds of kilometers.

Yeah, the sun is pretty trippy that far north.  I think it's just so beautiful, though -- the endless sunrises/sunsets, the super-long shadows, the sharp contrasts in light and dark, etc.  Svo fallegt, svo mikið fegurð.

dark, dark, dark; and how hard that would be to get through for a whole winter, tho then in the summer you'd have the recompense of Light! Light! Light!

I never thought of the sunrises and sunsets being such a dominant element.

I'm enjoying the new perspectives I get from these diaries.  I liked hearing about the god-named steets, too.  It does have an archaic, mythic feeling

    •  Do people paint their windows black in the summer? (1+ / 0-)

just get used to it.  Most tourists in Iceland desperately wish they had brought a blindfold   ;)

I don't think I'm as sensitive to sunlight (bright times or dark times) as most, however.
