I was hoping to find some myself in the comments, because I have an acquaintance who also likes to disseminate "interesting" (yes, she always uses that heading) articles she happens upon. Though she describes herself as an independent, the offensive material started to appear right after Obama was elected - surprise!

Her preferred outlet is email, and, unlike your uncle, I don't think she's especially intelligent. Trying to "discuss" things with her has been an exercise in futility. At first I referenced snopes.com. Then I got tired of doing her homework for her, and just started sending her directly to snopes. Of course that's no longer useful; since the right-wing grapevine has decided that snopes is the creature of George Soros, their facts are no longer valid. I also realized that she had no intention of actually considering my replies; her object (and your uncle's too, I'm afraid) is not to discuss, or even persuade. It is to make liberals upset and angry.

I next decided to risk sacrificing whatever other value there was in our relationship and just told her to stop, first politely, then in increasingly vehement language. It didn't work. I tried sending an extremely outspoken email not only to her but to everyone else she'd copied on her latest missive (that's right - she didn't even bcc her mailing list). I received a number of supportive messages from some of her other victims, and she stopped for a month or so, then, I guess she just couldn't help herself. Finally I had to consign her to my spam folder.

I realize it's easier to do this to a "friend" than a relative, especially one you have some affection for, but maybe you should just block his posts on FB. Sorry.
