    Contrary to the message you seem to have taken from this one column, Krugman does not, and has not ever, argued that the deficit is a problem which must be dealt with now. Quite the opposite, in fact. He has been highly and consistently critical of "deficit hawks," and has frequently made the same point the diarist makes... that with interest rates at their current level, now is definitely not the time to focus on the deficit.

    However, Krugman has also been consistent in his agreement that the deficit, in the long term, is a problem, and has argued that it does need to be addressed.

    No one who has spent any time reading Krugman (I check in on his blog daily) would labor under the illusion that he has adopted the framing of the deficit hawks.

    I vote we run Rick Scott out of Florida on a high-speed rail.
