You may have achieved understanding at an early age, but for someone, reading this diary is a revelation.

If that's the case, then that's pretty sad.  Anyone for whom "rich people are selfish" is a revelation is either in 1st grade, or is completely undereducated.

It's our job to take the diarist's message and go the next step with it. Or perhaps in your case, to piss all over the diarist and mock everyone who lacks your Lofty Understanding.

What step is that?  Knocking on people's doors passing around leaflet's informing them of the "new world order" and of the "elites" that are "stealing" their money?  (Gee!  No one's ever done that before!)

Look, the world is more nuanced than this Cassandra bullshit makes it out to be, and speaking of revelations, here's one for you: nursing conspiracy theories (even those that are tarted up with pseudo-intellectual rhetoric to make it past the site censors) won't stop rich people from being assholes.

Instead of whining that things are hard and that really bad people want to have a lot of money, people need to read real history books (and not political blog drivel), and then try to change things starting with their local communities.

Get fucked, you smarmy, arrogant asshole. How's that for not whining? (I'm too old and far too bad-tempered to play these games any longer.)

On a more civilized note, the diarist is going past the "gee, rich people sure are selfish" bit to "wow, the rich are attempting to dismantle democracy as we know it." You and all of your friends and neighbors hanging on the couch at the coffee shop may be aware of it, but I'm constantly amazed at the number of intelligent, educated, liberal-minded people who haven't put the pieces together yet. (That's one thing the Occupy movement is achieving, by the way.)

If diaries like this help open someone's eyes, then I'm all for them. Comments from the folks who are already On the Bus can help bring more light and understanding. Your comments, however, do nothing except alienate people. We hear so much talk about the divided left attacking itself; your comments are perfect examples of that dynamic. If you must hold people in contempt, fine, but shut up about it. This diary is about bringing people into the fold, not pissing on them for not already being there.

Occupy Wall Street. Occupy Main Street. Occupy everything. Force a tsunami of change on the nation.

wow, the rich are attempting to dismantle democracy as we know it

When have they not been?  The former President's grandfather was said to have been part of an attempted coup during FDR's Presidency, for example.  But for you to have known that, you'd have to have actually read like a book or something.

You and all of your friends and neighbors hanging on the couch at the coffee shop may be aware of it, but I'm constantly amazed at the number of intelligent, educated, liberal-minded people who haven't put the pieces together yet. Some people are indeed proud to be ignorant.  Not only are you proud to be ignorant, you'll go so far as to insist your ignorance is some kind of special insightfulness.

You sit here "thinking" that those of us who don't share your idiotic imaginings that the rich have never tried to dismantle Democracy until now are somehow walking around uninformed, and yet the minute someone suggests that you ought to read a book rather than wear your ignorance on your sleeve, you call that person an asshole.

Well you know what they say.  You can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think.

        •  It's much more honest just to come back with (0+ / 0-)

"fuck you, asshole" than trying to find clever ways to call me an ignorant whore.

So let me give you a primer. Stand in front of the mirror. Look into your own eyes. Snarl, "Fuck you, asshole!" Do it over and over until it feels natural. Then do it to the next person to rile you up, instead of resorting to what seems to be your typical snide character assassination.

Meanwhile I'll go through the approximately 7,000 books in my house and ponder the question of whether I've actually read one of them.

Occupy Wall Street. Occupy Main Street. Occupy everything. Force a tsunami of change on the nation.
