    but since I earn my living here, and I have financial obligations back in the good ol' USA, my wage in dollars may go way, way down.

    This better be good. Because it is not going away.

      .... than any other country in Europe, to deal with this.

      Germany still has real industry, most of which is world-leading in terms of quality.  

      Germany still has a good educational system and a well-educated public.  And still has a decent social safety net.

      Staying put is better than moving into some new situation where you'll have to get re-established during a crisis.  Find ways to make yourself useful to your neighbors, and develop some new skills that will work when the outside economy has stopped working.  

      "Minus one vote for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.
