.... Occupy and the Tea Party.

Just stick to the core issue of economic populism.

Yes, and that will scare the Village out of their wits, and might even lead to Congress doing the right thing.

"Minus one vote for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.

    •  worthwhile, as long as one is able to distinguish (7+ / 0-)

between different elements subsumed under "tea party." some are inextricably wedded to the GOP power structure, and only using populist rhetoric cynically to grow their numbers, and some are just mad at being ripped off, and responding to the populism itself.

the latter we can work with (in fact, the nonpartisan and explicitly critical of wall street democrats) OWS is actually quite effective at giving former conservatives or former republicans a face-saving way to flip to left populists (i've watched it with my parents, esp. my father) precisely because it allows them to continue disliking democrats from a tribal perspective while they undergo their ideological transition.

the political spectrum will look rather different in a couple of years, is my guess. we may not recognize the party coalitions by the end of the decade.
