across this country are experiencing the same shit. Hugs and high-fives to you because you ARE making a difference in the lives of children.
And before anyone gets all excited at the figures for teachers in Hawaii, let me remind you that we live with a "paradise tax" in the form of $5 per half gallon milk and "affordable" homes that start at $450,000.

    •  Thank you, and I did make the change to make (3+ / 0-)

a difference --- and I know that I do.  Happily, on Saturday, I got a note in the mail from a troubled, former student that he'd just completed his GED.  Whoopee!!  I have run into him in the neighborhood over the years, and I've been so worried for him.  His life was going in such a negative direction ... dropped out, arrested for DUI, his girlfriend dropped out when she got pregnant with their little girl ... and everytime he saw me, I'd plead with him to take advantage of the GED program we have in our area.  In response, I'm sending him a congrats card ... with info about the local community college program in welding (we have a HUGE need for certified welders in our area).  Even after they move on, I can't help but hope for and worry about them all.

$5 a gallon for milk!  Wow.  We only pay $2.89 a gallon, and frequently I can get it on a Manager's Special for $1.50.  We have a teenage son, so we go through milk like crazy at our house.

thank you and positive thought from a student and whip them out when a politician or administrator tries to beat you down. I
t's really nice when you can run into students and witness their continued progress! Go you!
And our milk is $5 a HALF gallon so if your son were here he'd have to give it up and drink something cheaper like gasoline which is only $4 a gallon. Ha! Ha!
