  •  small point - not a $250 tax cut (7+ / 0-)

    a $250 deduction above the line to reduce adjusted gross income.   In my case, with spousal unit and self in 28% bracket, with about 6% additional state income tax, that is worth a savings of  70 in federal and 15 in state, or a real tax cut of 85.

    Since my out of pocket expenses for my 6 Government classes is usually at least $1,000 over that, the the remainder goes into the misc. category which much be offset by 2% of gross taxable income before I begin to get deductions from taxable income.
