  •  Health Insurance (6+ / 0-)

Money pumped into the personal pockets of private insurers, whose goal is to hold onto that money at all costs, is the number one cost in our state's schools. With luck, if our pseudo-dem governor doesn't sell us out after years and years of effort to prepare the way for single-payer in VT, we may cut our insurance expenditures for teachers by 40% - 60%, which will make a HUGE dent in the ed budget.

But yes, I figured one day that if health insurance increases by 10% a year, which is normal, that for every 50 staff members or so, you are going to have to lay off one teacher to stay even. The alternative is to cap the district contributions, in which case your staff gets an effective pay cut each year.

Fry, don't be a hero! It's not covered by our health plan!
