situation.  Thank you, and I'm sorry that you and your husband are being unfairly in this way.  I'm giong to be hit BIG time by this situation.

I could prevent this from happening to me by quitting -- by deciding to stop being a teacher -- for the last 5 years of my work-life and taking a private sector job where I once again earned a "substantial wage."  IRS language.

Lately, I've been getting calls from headhunters 2-3 times a week from the education profiteer companies.  With a MS in Ed in Instructional Design and an MBA,  and having been a Director or VP in Training and Quaility at Fortune 100 companies for 20 years -- and now, I have 7 years experience as a middle school with certifications in science, social studies and language arts -- gee....  I guess I've gotten into some head hunters' dbase as a dream candidate for their lousy, scum sucking, corporatist comapnies who have strategic plans to privatize our public school system.

Grin. Of course, I'm not going to do any such thing, but it frankly really pisses me off when people like myself get called "greedy."  If I was greedy, of course I'd be going on those interviews and taking one of those positions so my SS wouldn't unfairly be cut.

sigh.  But I'd miss my kids, and I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.  And folks, I am NOT unusual!  I work with like miinded, caring professionals everyday.

And we have NO regrets for moving from Illinois to Iowa. A lot of good came from it, both in terms of career and in our personal lives.

The "greedy" meme pisses me off, too. A nephew (who is almost 50 and works for the state of LA as a prison nurse) is a regressive. He made sweeping assumptions on Facebook early this year about what a great deal Jim was getting on his pension and lifelong healthcare benefits. When I told nephew that NO Jim did NOT have any healthcare benefits, and in fact is working his post-teaching job just to get benefits (though he will get Medicare when he qualifies next spring), and NO Jim does not have the great pension AND SS that nephew was assuming, and when I told nephew he shouldn't make assumptions about stuff he knows nothing about, he complained that I was grumpy...
