There is a breaking point where people have no food and nothing to lose. We are headed in that direction. I see no reason to believe that millions of people forced into homelessness and starvation will die quickly and quietly to convenience those who don't want to have to step over bodies in the street. It will come to that.

the military and it's endless wars becomes the only paying gig in town.  And they'll do it with broad public support.

First, because there is actually an immense store of wealth in America's farm and timberland which could be "occupied" by the poor if they gave up on their conditioned servility and decided to take back the resources necessary for survival.  Secondly, because the actual troops of the military are almost exclusively recruited from families of the lower and lower-middle classes.  Unlike 17th century Europe and ancient Rome, which retained traditions of military service for their aristocrats, our oligarchs spring almost exclusively from merchant and professional backgrounds.  As a result they cannot and will not pick up weapons to defend themselves with; that's just too mucky and gauche to think of.  Three out of four lower and lower middle-class families are not nearly so squeamish.  When it comes down to force, the military the Elites send in is comprised of the same people they will be asked to suppress, and that has all kinds of ramifications that don't work in the oligarchs' favor.
