      I don't think Gingrich would lose nearly as badly as Goldwater did (the GOP has a considerably larger base of states they have a lock on nowadays then they did back in the 1960s), but I agree, Gingrich would lose in the worst electoral defeat for the GOP since Barry. He probably couldn't win much more than the GOP bases in the Deep South and the Plains states.

        as well they did with McCain (although they will try, as they did with Bush).

        When you beat Newt, you beat the evil monster that is modern -fascism- republicanism out in the open, and the beating will repudiate it as an ideology.  

        With Mitt, it's not as clear cut what you're beating since he either ducks issues or takes both sides of the issues.
