American Crystal was formed by farmers to process the biggest cash group by acre in North Dakota - sugar beets.

Ostensibly the producers run the company in order to process the product locally and retain control after they harvest.

On its face, this is a great idea and allows the farmers to maintain control of their own product without giving up rights to a multinational corporation.

However, they still have to hire workers to run the plants and obviously they are not exactly going about it in a pro-union way.  Which is not terribly surprising as most North Dakota farmers could give a rats ass about unions.
