  •  thanks for the reminder - just batten'd down (4+ / 0-)

the hatches on the patio... last time, the gate blew open and stuff flew everywhere.

hope the barn doesn't get too blown away.  will head out early to make sure m'pony is okay.

years ago, when both m'boys were alive, we had a hurricane every week for three weeks on long island (only the last one was after season so it was "unofficial").

the boys were in a barn and very nervous - i spent most of the hurricane in sani's stall singing to him to keep him from trying to jump the 8' divider to get to nimbus!

my singing is appalling enough that he was sufficiently distracted!

the next one, i was in nim's stall and he decided to jump at the insulation popping out of the upper eaves.  caught the edge of the sole of my boot and i went flying backwards - like one of those plastic boxing toys - couldn't go "down" because he was standing on my boot!

heh - then the last one, the roof blew off the run-in shelter in the paddock (had moved them outside to large paddock).. the barn owner tried to tell me i had to pay for the "damage" cuz my horses knocked the roof off - the 12' high roof (that he forgot to use the 90 degree metal braces to anchor to the  shed.

i told him that i didn't think the boys were really practicing their pegaseus take offs and landings that carelessly after nimbus used his unicorn horn to pry loose the roof while standing on sani's withers between his wings.

the roof, btw, was in the paddock behind theirs - some 40 feet away from there paddock.

oh, yeah.  we moved out the next week.  8^)

stories of horses and high winds - never boring!

that - they are big enough to stomp you into the ground thing. Rocky The Cat is esconsed in the house. Tonight, he is in the big house 'coz he wants to be warm. But he is terrified of wind. He used to be content sleeping in the store. But a couple of years back we had a hurricane quality storm that started about 3am. At 8am, DH went down to the store and found Rocky screaming and clawing at the door. I remember watching DH carrying Rocky to the house in the rain and wind. He had his front paws wrapped around his neck and was totally terrified. The cat has never been the same about wind since. Last March, we had a big storm, the wind started about 3pm. I picked up Rocky and walked him to the big house. He literally wrapped his paws around my neck and started purring. Now we just know, get him in the house before it starts blowing. It will be interesting, watching his response tomorrow morning if it's blowing like they say it will. He loves being outdoors. But I'm willing to say that he'll take one look out the door and say never mind.

      •  heh - i woke up at 5:35 this am... this is (0+ / 0-)

a MAJOR indication of weather coming in.

i usually hit the hay about 2am to 4 am and don't wake up until about 10 - but today - eyes popped open and stayed.

        yep. storm.

horses are the most gentle beings when treated well.  they will do anything to avoid stepping on people usually.

mine is a pocket pony - 1500 lbs of "in your pocket" - especially if you have treats!

i am headed over to the barn soon to make sure everything goes okay with the wind.
