  •  Also you can apparently get them WITHOUT nicotene (9+ / 0-)

or gradually step down, just like you would with a gum or a patch.

Personally speaking, I have not smoked in over a year, so I have no pysiological addiction to nicotine, but I do miss the ritual act of smoking a cigarette. So much so that I have come perilously close to starting again. E-cigs seem like a pretty good alternative.

    •  Get some papers and some mint (1+ / 0-)

I did that early when I quit and was worried about slipping.   It satisfies the urge to inhale smoke, but I never found myself wanting to roll up a bunch and carry them with me all day.  More than you would ever care to have will cost you less than $5.

I could give that a try. What kind of paper do you use, and do you use fresh mint? Also does it taste similar to a cigarette? (I smoked menthols)

My urges only come when I'm stressed out, talking on the phone, or in social situations where others are smoking.

        •  I doubt fresh mint would burn (2+ / 0-)

but dried mint certainly would. It's about the same structurally as dried tobacco, though the shreds would be smaller.

Probably better if you can dry it yourself (which is easy), since you could keep the leaves basically intact.

        •  Dried mint, but you can do that yourself (0+ / 0-)

I bought zig zag's but the only difference I ever noticed in papers was how well they stood up to rolling and held together.

As to mint, peppermint or spearmint would be closest to a menthol.  Spearmint is actually named mentha, but peppermint I believe is where they used to extract the flavoring oil.
