You have no knowledge and there are no facts to show that an e-cigarette would have drastically improved her quality of life.   Quitting would have made the difference, continuing to ingest nicotine is never the answer.

disfigures, and is exacerbated by cigarette smoking. Graves' disease, with ophthalmopathy. Think Rodney Dangerfield or Marty Feldman eyes.

The studies done point to cadmium levels in tobacco smoke (not nicotine) as the factor that triggers the autoimmune antibody action on eye and other tissue.

In my case, the damage is done, and it's not that bad, just a little double vision in some fields and mild proptosis. My eyes flared twice and returned to normal over the years. As a smoker for 13 years who grew up in a smoking home, I had little choice and no information about that, until the damage happened.

But I relapsed under stress after the last flare, knowing that I was a fool and an idiot. I'm very glad to have a crutch for a while in the form of an e-cigarette, and zero exposure to inhaled cadmium in the meantime. It's no fun to see double, look like a freak and have to tape eyelids shut at night, when a flare happens.
