  •  I can't believe the Univ (11+ / 0-)

of Wisconsin hooks up with a radio station that has Limpbaugh!  Even if their signal reaches for 100's of miles!

That is something that should be fixed as soon as Mary is helped out!   UGH!!!

    •  15/16 NCAA basketball finalists 2010 used limbaugh (12+ / 0-)

      stations.

Progressives will lose all major messaging battles until they picket the limbaugh/hannity megastations and boycott those stations' local sponsors.

      •  The problem this reveals is how widely and deeply (12+ / 0-)

right-wing nuts own and control radio in the USA. I'd bet that most of those universities didn't go looking for stations that carried Limbaugh. They probably put coverage of their sports events up for bids. I'd put more cash down on the proposition that 15 out out of 16 Limbaugh stations put in the highest bid. Worse, the second and third-best bids were probably from stations that sing along to the right's Mighty Wurlitzer.

Money drives the right and money drives Division I NCAA sports programs. Birds of a feather...

        Sad.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left. - xxdr zombiexx

        •  also possible the limbaugh subsidizers bought up (7+ / 0-)

the stations that were doing the sports, and turned them into GOP megaphones.

i also noticed that some teams have numerous stations and i suppose that's about reaching farther around the state, so the contract situation must have some fluidity.

either way these contracts need to be broken or the stations need to make decisions to either balance of get rid of what is obviously partisan, and or not suitable for a university.

another point relative to that is that students and fans who don't  have high speed and TV (not all unis televise all games too) are 'forced' to listen to those stations.

has been the voice of Badger sports long before Rush Limbaugh and Clear Channel Radio.

The hard thing of boycotting clients because of Rush is that they also own the progressive talker in town.

          •  then it should be easier to break contract and (2+ / 0-)

            find an alternative.

if the uni started with a civilized station and it got bought for limbaugh and then fazed into all limbaugh and his wannabes then there should be a case to made to get out. the unis need to make a statement and maybe sacrifice some bucks for principle- on the global warming issue alone , considering recent warnings, no uni can continue to justify the  association any longer.

as far as harming progressive talkers there's very little proportionality - challenge of RW radio is going to make opportunity for progressive. any kind of comparison on any level will help point out the disparity. any comparison re racism, sexism, global warming denial- progressives win. if it's about signal size then it comes down to the university justifying that it wants to keep endorsing the global warming denial etc. vs finding alts that may give them similar coverage. many unis use more than one broadcaster- let teh unis give the biz to sports stations. many of them are on RWTR stations, and very few on progressive radio.

in terms of national advertisers, some throw a portion to progressives which is why local advertisers are the ones to go after- owners/managers are approachable by phone in person.

Progressives will lose all major messaging battles until they picket the limbaugh/hannity megastations and boycott those stations' local sponsors.
