  •  Normally that's NOT a good metric... (1+ / 0-)

brooklynbadboy gauge the political strength of a African-American office holder in a "Minority-Majority" district. I bet at least half of the Congressional Black Caucus members have less than $100K cash on hand at this point.

    •  That's a concern in my district too (0+ / 0-)

I don't know how much money my congresswoman has, but this district is so overwhelmingly Democratic no Republican ever gets much more than 15% of the vote, when they even bother to run one. So she seldom does fundraisers, and we've never had to worry about the cost of campaigns. Now she has a Democratic challenger who MAY get big money from wealthy donors whose interests the challenger has served in the past and who "owe" her. I say "may" because it's unknown at this point where the challenger's support will come from, or even why she is doing this, given that her voting record, based on her track record as a state legislator, will likely differ little from the incumbent's.

My main concern is that a district that has never sucked up money will now drain it from races that will desperately need it like our U.S. Senate race. Sherrod Brown is facing a guy who is the puppet of every major corporate interest you can name and will likely be the recipient of tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars in SuperPAC support. In fact, three groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, are ALREADY running lying smear ads against Sherrod Brown. We may not have the money to win this one, and I will gag if this horrific Republican gets this seat. I believe his donors have him on the fast track to the White House.

Take the "Can't(or)" out of Congress. Support E. Wayne Powell in Va-07.
