I meet with Native Americans from all over at various tribal leaders meetings. For over two decades those from Alaska have been telling us about how the tundra is melting and their environment is changing. Storms are bigger, ice pack comes later, ice melt comes earlier, animals are moving and/or dying out. They told me about their houses sinking into the ground many years ago so they had to find rocky land to rebuild on. Everything is more dangerous, hunting, fishing and just walking across the land. They feel the coming disaster sooner than we do.

America could have chosen to be the worlds doctor, or grocer. We choose instead to be her policeman. pity

We need to hear more of their powerful stories. Alaskans are witnessing changes in their environment at a rate that's higher than almost anywhere on earth.

look for my eSci diary series Thursday evening.
