  •  Progressives just can't understand..... (9+ / 0-)

.....the things that True, God Fearin' Americans know in their hearts:

The Government has a right to regulate your state of consciousness, even when you are in the privacy of your own home.

Nearly all Conservatives know that the legal status of Alcohol, Tobacco and Marijuana is fully consistent with the ideals of personal liberty and responsibility. Because if fully informed people could voluntarily take any ole substance which can produce any ole state of consciousness: then that would be unAmerican Nanny State Fascism run amok.

    Also.

Heck, even the Obama Administration understands that the State has a compelling interest in this matter. They have continued the relentless pursuit of people who enter into the prohibited state of consciousness induced by marijuana.  In this regard, they even acted like Real American Conservatives! The Obama Administration completely ignored all the contrary science, so they could formulate policy on the basis of politics:

In a letter from [Obama Administration] DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart, the agency said that based on the recommendation of the [Obama Administration] Department of Health and Human Services they were denying the request [to take marijuana off of the DEA Schedule 1] because marijuana a has “a high potential for abuse, has no accepted medical use in the United States, and lacks an acceptable level of safety for use even under medical supervision.”

Keeping marijuana on the DEA Schedule 1 might hot have been good science, but it was certainly another victory for Pragmatism TM....

...it was also a victory for Real Americans' freedom of choice when it comes to ethanol and tobacco products which cannot be described as:

“[having] a high potential for abuse*, [having] no accepted medical use** in the United States, and [lack] an acceptable level of safety for use even under medical supervision***.”

    * There are hardly any alcohol addicts AT ALL.

** The Tobacco Institute has published numerous scientific papers on the beneficial effects of tobacco.

*** Think of all the times that doctors have prescribed tobacco for their patients. Then compare that with the number of times that doctors have advised their patients to use marijuana. It's no contest.

While I don't hold Obama in high esteem, that doesn't mean I would say he's the Devil Incarnate and the lessor of evils. He is merely the lessee of evils.
