  •  You are dreaming. (0+ / 0-)

People here actually equate Israel to Iran, and we are supposed to take them seriously?

Not to mention that in large part, a state's duty to citizens differs from what is owed to the population of a belligerent.

that states have a distinct and carefully defined responsibility to the civilian populations of territory they occupy in the course of a war.

I don't think that this is a line of argument likely to reflect all that well on Israel...

to citizens.  Do you expect they should be treated exactly the same?

Do you believe that there is significance due to the belligerency of the Palestinians?

You guys seem to be living in the land of nod.

The distinction between citizens and non-citizens is not material here.  The applicability of the laws of war and human rights law to ANY occupied territory is what matters here.  And yes, there are clearly defined legal obligations which apply to Israel which is ignores (rationalizations notwithstanding).  It is therefore, in the group of countries which ignore international human rights law.

It is pretty straightforward, really.  Live up to the standards of conduct of international law, and then you won't be counted in the group of serial human rights violators.

The only way apologists can avoid that is to either ignore international standards or try to rationalize that the violations are excusable or justifiable.

Intelligent, passionate, perceptive people will always disagree, but we should not let that disagreement, however heartfelt, lead us to become deaf to those better angels of our nature.

I suggest you speak for yourself and not your compatriots.

Many with whom I discuss with here would not know the rule of law if it hit them in the face.

The knowledge of international law extremely lacking.

The need to call people apologists and the like is not lacking at all!
