  •  When did K-12 ever teach "critical" thinking? I (0+ / 0-)

was educated in the early 60's and did nothing but memorization.  Before that the three R's were what was taught in most schools.  Higher education was where critical thinking was taught.  That is not being done today for the most part.  Hell, many can barely  read when they get to college.

    •  Early 60's? There's your problem. (0+ / 0-)

If they educated you to be critical thinkers, you'd have been asking WAY too many questions about the logic of ducking and covering when the Red Menace was dropping atom bombs all around you.

That is not being done today for the most part.  Hell, many can barely  read when they get to college.

I'd say it all depends on the resources available to the school, and how much political pressure its under to teach-to-the-test.

Because my middle-of-the-road public high school in the early 90's gave me lots of opportunities to explore what I was being taught.

children are not all the same anymore than women, latinos or gay people.   This one sized education fits all as assured by corporate testing is an excuse to privatize our schools.   MI teabagger governor is now demanding that universities and their degrees be determined by industry need and turned into vocational training schools.

I think all politicians should be required to pass 10th grade NEAPS and a drug and alcohol screening.  Then we pay them $8.50 an hour with no benefits.

Yes we can, but he won't. Banks Got Bailed Out. We Got Sold Out!
