Protecting Vulnerable LGBT Refugees and Asylum Seekers

We give asylum for a number of reasons to people from other countries.  Wonder if it would be possible to include "asylum" to individuals that are being persecuted because of their sexual preference.  I admit to being a pretty strong gay rights advocate and I know that everyone doesn't exactly feel as I do on this, but you'd think that the more progressive our country becomes, the easier it would be to get this done.

I mean, I'm sure there wil be a lot of people complaining that taxpayer dollars shouldn't be used in this manner (same folks that are against taxpayer dollars to support abortion rights).  If what I'm suggesting were implemented, we could save a lot of money by just integrating persecuted gays into our society.

Am I being "pie in the sky" here?

    - If you don't like gay marriage, blame straight people. They're the ones who keep having gay babies.
