    Since Schweitzer is from a smaller state, getting Bullock elected would give him credibility as a "party builder".

        Bullock winning would be at least marginally beneficial to Schweitzer, but that's different from saying a loss, especially a narrow loss by Bullock would cause many people to stop taking Schweitzer seriously.

      He helped build the brand in that state for sure.  Saying Tester losing hurts him is the same as saying losing the legislature last year hurts him.  I just don't think he can be responsible for the current environment.

      The fact we have 2 Dem Senators and a popular Dem governor in Montana is pretty good.  Expecting a permanent majority is kind of hard (NY still has a Dem Senate).  

      I'm also not sure how important the party really finds the ability of Dems to make inroads in rural areas, since that's not really key to future presidential election strategy.
