  •  Occupiers reborn as a legislative advocacy force (30+ / 0-)

Exactly what #Occupy v2.0 should look like.

They now literally have worldwide respect and recognition as a force to be reckoned with.  Now it's time to leverage that political capital into real legislative changes.

And accomplish all that while occupying someplace warm.

    •  A number of people have been (7+ / 0-)

calling for an Article V Amendment solution and I think it helped OWS develop the concept for the 99% Declaration:

      Article V Amendment

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

Once this effort builds momentum, then you're going to see some terrified politicians make a concerted effort to kill it.

Thanks Vyan for posting this diary.  Here are some links to discussions about an article V solution. (I included a great diary by Ralph Lopez on the Daily Kos).

    •  1/3 of what Occupy 2.0 should look like (6+ / 0-)

second 1/3--keep moving your money (organizations, churches, cities)
      third 1/3--foreclosure defense and occupation

      •  Exactly, there are a lot of people (0+ / 0-)

who have absolutely zero desire to participate in legislative advocacy.  Doing so may be the downfall of the movement if a large amount of the focus is shifted to advocacy.  All it would take is a few losses in the legislative arena and all momentum is lost, and really does anyone think any of these things have a chance of passing right now?  Ditto with working for campaigns, OWS grew out of a disgust with the ineffectual nature of these things, to expect it to embrace them now is absurd.  Another problem with this route is that it will end up making the movement look like a wing of the Democratic party unless people push for electing other parties, preferably third parties because I don't think anyone is under the impression that the GOP is in any way better than the Dems when it comes to kowtowing to wall street and the rich.

This isn't to say no one should be working on these things, this is exactly the sort of thing that people who can't occupy can work on.  If you can't be out there doing actions then you can push in other ways.

There revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.
