You are incorrect. I started three businesses between 1983 and 1999. I was fortunate enough to sell one of them at a profit after 9 years of building it up. Therefore, what I know and see has merit on this topic.

You are incorrect in that in order to buy or start  a new business today you have to have seed money, either from family, a bank, private investor, or Venture Capitalist.

For most folks, if they don't have more than $250,000 to invest in their own business, then the above methods are pretty much the only way to finance. In today's economic times, the commercial banks  are not lenidng to start ups. Private investor groups ( Angels) have almost dried up unless you are srating up a cola or Natural gas drilling business. Venture capital firms have been drying up and there is about 2 Trillion less in that investor class than their was in 2007

What I am tired of is people who use platitudes to wish away a problem that affects 100% of all Americans. What I would like to see is some solutions such as the ones in this diary which actually look to create community banks and micro lending organizations.

I want to find those seeds.

Look, if the left is saying that people should lead fulfilling, self-actualized lives, then the left needs to have support structures that get there.

    •  Rhetoric (0+ / 0-)

Bitching about age discrimination by Fortune 500 companies just raises the question "what are you going to do about it"?

You can pursue legislative solutions.  You can occupy the HR department.  You can take your skills and compete with them.  There must be a productive place for people with experience.  Find it.  Let a thousand flowers bloom.

Money and effort are somewhat fungible.  Unemployed people have time.  Where are they spending their efforts?  Just sending out resumes is a sterile endeavor.  What's your plan B, C, D, and E?
