  •  We are hard-wired for sex (0+ / 0-)

I think the problem in our culture is that we make it sinful and shameful and taboo and mysterious, and, perhaps most importantly, a natural pathway to rebellion.  At he same time, sex is exploited without mercy or decency to sell products and is constantly in our faces.

And then we expect a kid to navigate its way through this psychic  minefield to maturity with inadequate eduction.

So of course it's all fucked up.

My natural old hippie self would argue for freedom with safety, meaning, let kids do it and make birth control freely available and un-stigmatized.  But that assumes a world in which all the "artificial" external pressures around sex don't exist, living situations in which sex is but a minor component of a rich life.  I've seen kids raised in that kind of environment and they've gone on to healthy lives.

The main thing is no child should be forced to commit to a lifetime of raising a child without being fully prepared for it, emotionally and materially,  simply because she was overcome by a hormone storm.

Deep cultural shit.  Slow to change, but I've seen change in the time I've been observing.

don't always believe what you think
