I certainly get your point of view.  Unfortunately, neither complaints nor large numbers of former members withholding support seem to have made a difference.  Are there points of leverage more effective than these?  Is it worth trying to change these formerly valuable state institutions?

We can't outbid the oligarchs.  As long as they're willing to make up the shortfall when ordinary people stop donating, the farce will continue.  They get a lot more bang for the buck with NPR than with almost any other outlet/medium.  They give their message a veneer of credibility, and sell it directly to the people who oppose them.  Fox News is preaching to the choir; this is their way to reach the unbelievers.

We have one thing in common with the right wing - we think the government is beholden to special interests to the point of ignoring the common good.  The difference is that they think that immigrants, the sick, the poor and the elderly have somehow outbid the billionaires for Congress's attention.
