  •  Romney's biggest weakness is his religion. (0+ / 0-)

Let's face it, the GOP is the last bastion of old-boy gospel hour religion.

Mitt Romney is not a part of that club. Even though Gingrich left that club to become a Catholic, the old-boy Baptists from the south and midwest have become quite chummy with Catholics recently (see Sam Brownback's campaign in 2007 which was based on his promises to the evangelical right to deliver whatever they wanted on social policies).

Mormons are not just distrusted by evangelical Christians, they are hated. Loathed. As far as the evangelical right is concerned, Mormons are nothing but thinly-veiled pagans and/or Satan worshippers.

To them, a President Romney would herald in the apocalypse.

They do a great job of concealing their bias with comments about Mitt Romney's shifting political views. But this bias is exposed by their embrace of Gingrich, a man who has flip-flopped on everything from his abortion position to his position on the environment to his religion (supposedly sacrosanct to the evangelical right) and his first two wives.

Now Jack Abramoff is implicating Newt in yet another scandal.

Will the GOP ever learn? Let's hope not.
