    There's a lot of existing building stock that should be checked for retrofit possibilities as tech develops and prices drop. Just keeping a existing building viable saves the energy and resource costs that went into it in the first place.

    What I'd like to see is a stand-alone solar panel package/power storage system for emergencies. It'd be just big enough to run critical home systems in a power outage - heat, water pump, sump pump, fridge/freezer. Everyone would have to decide which and what they need. Storage to provide power through the night, panels to recharge it, and feed into the grid when power was on.

    There are a lot of people in the northeast who would have killed for that after Irene and the October snow.
