  •  How does it compare to the PRC's police vans? (3+ / 0-)

I heard those get quite a workout too.

    •  Sadly, ours are quite poor. (10+ / 0-)

In PRC, only the higher ranking cops get to ride in Chevrolets (now the preferred Police Lt car) while the beat cops walk, ride bikes or drive VW Santanas, and the latter are normally pressed into service to transport suspects/whatever.

In case of mass arrests, usually a city bus or more likely a truck would be used and those are pretty lousy compared to the vehicle those Muscovites are sitting in, which seems so deluxe I have to wonder if it is actually a crewe van pressed into service.  Looks pretty swanky as police vehicles go, are those stainless steel window covers? Nice and clean too.

Possible exception in China would be Shanghai or Beijing where there are a few Benz or Ford UK crewe vans available for the VIP escort operations, our city fathers don't want us to lose face and look like poor peasants when folks like Obama visit.

But I highly doubt those would ever be used for routine duties of any kind when there are so many trucks for hire.

Actually, one thing that has come out of the past year of global protests is our government has realized how "ill prepared" we are for mass civil disturbances and I think that is actually true. Usually when a demonstration gets out of hand here it's cops vs demonstrators until most people go home and there aren't so many people arrested on the spot. Later, perhaps, but not in situ.

So we want to sincerely and humbly thank you guys for alerting our overlords to fact they are so poorly prepared, maybe they will set up a research lab in Sichuan to develop pepper spray so we don't have to buy it from an evil Capitalist state.

Or import it from the US to help the trade balance, that would work too!

      That's progress, no?

      What about my Daughter's future?
