While I agree that the MBA mentality is decimating business in the US (I've witnessed it firsthand several times), there are some other things to toss into the mix that are contributing to the destruction of business here.  These are a few that I can quickly think of, and I'm sure this is not a comprehensive list, so feel free to add to it:

    * Poorly regulated vertical integration of businesses that end up dominating markets and make it financially difficult for small companies to compete.  For example, ISP's that are  content providers (Comcast, Time-Warner, etc) and hold government protected monopolies.

    * Laws that are restrictive on the general public on behalf of entrenched huge corporate interests.  For example, the current internet censorship bills that are being pushed by Big Content.

    * Out of control patent, trademark, and copyright litigation.  Want to create a new business?  You better hire a team of lawyers first.

    * Trade agreements that allow corporations to move jobs and operations anywhere, anytime, for any reason without concern to the damage done to local communities, but do not offer the same freedom of movement for workers.
