  •  I feel sorry for her but (4+ / 0-)

I think her body is telling her something.  Time to enjoy and love the 19 she has and start saving energy for the grandchildren she will someday have, because will certainly need it.

    •  I doubt it's because her body isn't capable of it (6+ / 0-)

I expect it was either "just because", or it was 'because' the embryo that was created was malformed to such an extent that it couldn't sustain life inside the womb. Such malformations happen more as a woman ages.

Women who've actually gone past menopause, then have had their hormones replaced - they still have functioning uteri. It's their eggs that 'go stale'.

      •  She has specifically been advised (1+ / 0-)

not to get pregnant again by all of her doctors. That it would be a serious risk for her and for the child.

      •  Her last baby was 3 months early (0+ / 0-)

and had major problems.  She was under bed rest for most of the pregnancy.

Not to be crass but after 18, she simply can't keep the uterus closed.  Fill a balloon up with water enough times and eventually it will spring a leak.

      •  So Dolly (0+ / 0-)

You don't think that a woman's body gets to the point of where carrying a baby year after year after year just gets to be too damned wearing? Her boobs hang to her navel, her belly hangs to her knees because the stomach muscles are so loose, and her uterus/bladder hangs even lower. And then you add in a non-viable embryo.

Would you scramble and eat a stale egg? No? Then why would a woman want to make a baby from a stale egg?

        •  No, I don't think that a uterus wears out (0+ / 0-)

Being married to a ob-gyn doctor, I'm pretty familiar with this topic.

And so, I don't agree with the previous poster that it was (likely) a failure of her uterus.
