The rights protected by the Constitution
of the United States are the rights of natural persons and
do not extend to for-profit corporations, limited liability
companies, or other private entities established for busi-
ness purposes or to promote business interests under the
laws of any state, the United States, or any foreign state.

This pretty clearly applies to the First Amendment.

Anyone here familiar with any significant presses that are owned by natural persons?

Pretty clearly under this amendment the government could have prevented the NYT from publishing the Pentagon Papers and the southern states could have bankrupted northern newspapers with libel suits for their reporting on the Civil Rights struggle.

The amazing thing here is that anyone who calls himself a liberal is actually supporting this idiocy.

Under this amendment a corporation would not have the right to sue in court - it's not a person and does not have the right to bring suit.

So who could sue if the government restricted freedom of the press?

    •  Idiocy is exactly right. (1+ / 0-)

It takes all of 10 seconds of thinking to imagine all sorts of awful scenarios that this amendment would create.  Supporters seem to have some sort of aphasia that has blocked out their critical reasoning on the subject of corporate personhood.

      •  you are right johnny (0+ / 0-)

There are a handful of issues, corporate personhood being one, where the topic alone seems to have a profound effect on the logic skills of many of our fellow DKOS bloggers. I think it is, in part, caused by so much factually incorrect material that is written, and posted, here on the subject.

        "let's talk about that"
