    as you might think ---  you get the COPIES., which I think is actually what should happen.

    BUT  I have met enough people who are willing to commit fraud to be able to sue doctors, that if they were the sole custodians of their records they would change them.

    Look at our society, look at how much malpractice insurance has risen - it would happen.

    I have actually corrected problems in my medical file when I've gotten to look at them -- like  in my gyno's office when my files listed two therapeutic abortions instead of miscarriages.

    I think both doctor and patient should have a copy.. but neither one should be in sole possession. Just like your high school and college transcript.  Does that make it a little more clear?  Are we still in disagreement?

    Now saying that, my medical records at this point would take up at least 2 bankers boxes ;-)
