  •  We have already seen an overreaction by those (0+ / 0-)

who took Levin's quote of context and those who were misled. Many progs have gotten themselves emotionally invested in the idea that Obama just signed away our basic civil liberties. That notion has been repeated by the likes of serial Obama basher Cenk Uygar, Keith Olbermann, and others in the media.

I have also been guilty of jumping on Obama for something I later learn is complete nonsense or an overreaction. I can't tell you how many progressive I still hear say,"Democrats had a filibuster proof majority for Obama's entire first two years.."

Take a chill pill, we can all let out a collective sigh.

    •  This is the Feinstein Amendment (0+ / 0-)

The Feinstein Amendment makes the law less bad than it otherwise would be. But the result is still ambiguous, because it's contested whether "exiting law or authorities" permit the indefinite military detention of US citizens.  Some people say no, while other people say yes. The NDAA allows those who believe the president has such power to act on that belief. Greenwald has a good discussion of the issue.

Another feature of the bill, which has received too little discussion, is section 1028 which makes it virtually impossible to release anyone from Guantanamo, whether they are guilty or innocent.
