      ...which frequently establish up front the varying hours, off hours availability, day to day demands, training, etc.  

      I would say an often unionized but similar profession is nursing. In fact I recruited a few nurses (clients) and trained them into IT analysts which was easy to do in their special cases and resulted in leveraging their same professional level analytical and detail skills and ability to learn, but with a whole lot more money, flexibility, career options, and benefits.

        The top pay for auto workers is around $28 per hour. New hires now are hired at $15 an hour. That will rise to $19 an hour over 3 years.
