when they review 4 wheel drives, especially jeep wranglers.  They focus exclusively on road comfort in a vehicle that just isn't designed with that priority.

These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people's money to settle the quarrel. Abraham Lincoln

I'd consider their reliability data to be useful, since it is collected from tens of thousands of readers, and reflects a pretty good sample size.

But when it comes to technologically complex products, I take their evaluations with a definite grain of salt.  That applies to cars, and it also applies to television/video/electronics products.  Back around 2005 when the first consumer level high definition camcorders came out, CR dismissed the difference in image quality between standard definition and high definition as being not that great.  Years before, they'd made a similar call on the difference between standard and Super VHS.

When it comes to cars, they really seem to play favorites when it comes to brands -- and change only slowly.  For years, it seemed like Toyota could release almost any bland piece of junk and just about be guaranteed a rec.
