  •  I'm not sure this is such a big deal (6+ / 0-)

He invested in F&F securities?  So did lots of little old ladies.  I hardly think shareholders or bondholders of most corporations are responsible for the actions of the company's management.

Also, aren't we buying into a bad conservative meme here.  Really, F&F got into some trouble, but they were not as big a deal as the wingnuts all say -- they didn't cause the banking collapse of '08, for example.  It wasn't, as they would have it, all the gubmints fault.

Newt, now that's a slightly different thing -- to the extent things went wrong at F&F, it's arguable he was aiding and abetting (though, once again, this is probably stretching things, based on current knowledge).  Would be interesting to know what Newt was "advising" them about.

    •  Why is it always "little old ladies?" (0+ / 0-)

I would tend to believe that little old men do much more investing than little old ladies do.

      •  Well (0+ / 0-)

I could trump up some justifications for this (e.g., the Federated Investors Government Obligations Fund is a low risk mutual fund attractive to conservative LOL's, the LOM's die first), but I think the best course may just be to remind myself to avoid gender-based cliches and stereotypes.
