You think people with degrees in engineering don't work?

      •  more than likely (4+ / 0-)

no labor perspective, anyplace BUT the history department.

Labor history does exist, but that's part of the problem, it's taught as history and the labor-centered perspective doesn't leave the history department and enter into the curriculum anyplace else.

        •  Partially right. I meant more that just history, (4+ / 0-)

and I didn't use the word "labor", although maybe I should have.  I am very much aware that engineers work hard, as do holders of other kinds of degrees, and no slight was intended.

The word "perspective" was a good one, and it didn't come to mind whan I wrote the first comment.  For instance, "increasing productivity" is persented as an almost universally good thing, but how often is this analyzed as "define rate-busting and describe some of it's detrimantal effects"?

My larger point was that Santorum was not entirely correct in portraying colleges as bastions of left-wing liberalism, since one could easlily say the opposite.  It's not far-fetched to say that a major function of college is to prepare students for entry into the higher socio-economic class.

I might add that the same conservative delusion exists about the "liberal media", and this has been commented on by many on this site.
