    Many companies put profit ahead of safety.   From the Triangle Shirtwaist Company to BP.  

    I do, however, trust the scientists of the USGS, which has a lot of "lifers" on staff who don't kow tow to any administration.  Right now, they say it's possible that fracking causes minor tremors, but that there is no conclusive evidence to support the proposition that fracking causes earthquakes of any degree of severity that would constitute a hazard to human life or property.  

    Mining, pile driving and highway construction also cause minor tremors.  We don't ban those activities.  

    For now, until I see some evidence to the contrary, I prefer to err on the side of reasonable caution.  Of course, I live in an area outside of the Marcellus Formation, so it's not a real issue for me.  I could understand how others would feel differently.
