    from working in government" not as a slam on Newt's profiteering, but as feeding the meme that government employees are overpaid. It could also be another meme: that wealth derived from government work isn't really "earned" (the way Romney's was "earned" by bankrupting companies because, hey!, private sector, right?!).

    Because read any other way, it seems like Romney's calling out Newt for using his government office to enrich himself, which is something that a) Romney has done himself and b) isn't so much unethical as one of the main reasons for Republicans to get into government, so why say it like it's a bad thing?

      ...because he is scared to death and it is one foothold where he can gain traction. That's the beauty of this of this pie fight -- they're doing our work for us, spending barrels of cash to do it that would otherwise be used against us, and are using ammunition that we could not use against them (such as the Pelosi/couch attack where she is used to demonize Newt amongst the wingnuts).
