    was SO true to life.

By the time I saw it, I had met...fen like that.  Not necessarily always Trekfen, but...the same type of obsessives.

See, I was never a fangirl.  I enjoyed reading sf & fantasy, and some of the movies, but was never obsessive about it the way, well, the Trekkies were.

However, my house isn't furnished in Early Klingon or Mid-Period Hogwarts.  I don't collect autographs, I don't wear hall costumes, and I don't have fanart on my walls.  I do have a scroll wall of my SCA awards, but that's not quite the same as having drawings of Snape exploring Lupin's inner wolf.

      I hope. :)

Boskone and a large guy came over and opened his arms and said, "Hug?"

I gave him the hug: he didn't seem TOO scary: then I went and found my friends who were giving me a ride home to NYC and stuck by them until we left.  This was, of course, the last day of the convention, and we were leaving shortly.

But that has always been a major memory of fandom:  "Hug?" from someone I've never met, with no other dialogue.  And who doesn't look all that tightly wrapped, if you know what I mean.

'S why I hung out with the pros: they were never scary.  And (back then) I was one of 'em.
