    As to the thrust of this diary, I find it stunning that anyone could possibly speak about these "child soldiers" as if they were monsters. They too were victims, as is always the case in these "conflicts".

    It's been so for as long as I can remember. It's too much to bear at times, the horror of bearing witness to the blood of all those beautiful Iraqi and Afghan children running in the streets intermingled with the blood of our own.

    There were a few images from that atrocity that will never leave me. Remember the little girl, about five years old, her dress and hands covered in her parents blood? There were others I can't bear to revisit.

    I don't know what comes after this life for the perpetrators of an evil of this magnitude. I can only hope for justice, whatever that means anymore.
