    What if the original photograph had in fact been of a protestor in Egypt, and the face mask had had clear Arabic script on it? Had they published it like that, the photograph would not have represented all protests in all of the places around the world, but just the ones happening in Arabic-speaking countries.

    By removing the specific identification of the OWS movement, I think they are making it clear that this is a global phenomenon, not an isolated case of Dirty Fucking Hippies camping in New York City.

    I agree with some of the other protestors that making the background red jacks up the "Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid" message, which I think is the real problem with this picture.

    Finally, if the cover of a worthless "news" magazine is the biggest problem you have with the current situation, I'd argue you're not paying very careful attention to what's wrong. I don't think that applies to you, Jesse, but this seems like a classic case of many people being distracted from the real problems by a tempest in a paint pot.
