    ...some of the discussion here reminds me of the dustup over the "raising the flag at ground zero" statue that NYFD commissioned.  They hired a sculptor to create a piece based on the iconic photo of the firefighters raising the flag over the rubble.  In order to symbolize the diversity of the victims, the first responders and the nation as a whole, the artist depicted two of the firefighters as black and latino.  The actual firefighters in the photo are all white. The outcry was predictable, and the project was cancelled.
